Senior Mechanical Procurement Engineer – MEP
Job Summary:
The Senior Mechanical Procurement Engineer – MEP is responsible for managing the entire procurement lifecycle for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects. This includes handling technical specifications, standardizing materials and equipment, and evaluating and selecting suppliers based on quality and cost-effectiveness. The role involves maintaining comprehensive supplier and price databases, negotiating optimal deals, and ensuring fair competition among vendors. The engineer manages purchase orders, establishes procurement terms, and oversees contract compliance. They must be adept at problem-solving, finding alternatives for unavailable items, and managing change orders. The position requires continuous vendor performance evaluation, quality improvement initiatives, and maintaining strong client-supplier relationships throughout project completion. Staying current with market trends, assisting in vendor development, and ensuring all contracts meet required terms and conditions are also key aspects of this role. This multifaceted position demands a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong negotiation skills to optimize the procurement process for MEP projects.
Responsibilities:
- Receive technical specifications of materials, equipment and operating supplies from project substantive offices and re-characterize them in detail with accordance to common technical standards and code each item to make supply process easier.
- Analyze all suppliers in order to select the most suitable suppliers who are able to deliver high quality products at competitive pricing & Prepare schedule of comparison.
- Look for new suppliers with accordance to the approved system of selecting suppliers, make database to include all necessary information about the selected suppliers who are well known for their quality, good reputation and compliance with required quality responsibilities and update it regularly.
- Establish delivery terms, time and stages of inspection for the supply with Project Management Team.
- Ensure that all potential suppliers are provided with identical information upon which the quotations are given equal opportunity to meet the desired requirements.
- Negotiate with suppliers on lead-time, cost and quality so as to obtain the maximum benefit for the company.
- Solicit price quotations from suppliers, make a database for materials, equipment and operating supplies prices and update it regularly to be referenced when necessary.
- Receive and check purchase orders from different company’s departments and projects with accordance to the approved systems and procedures, issue purchase orders, ensure the compliance with needs plans and approved budgets, submit them to the line manager for approval and follow its implementation.
- Work on finding solutions and alternatives to procure unavailable items, suggest other purchase resources and submit them to relevant departments to get the technical approval & Inform about any variations in the material requirements comparing with the project’s contract.
- Ensure documentation to negotiate that change orders have been properly produced and maintained.
- Coordinate with vendor on continuous quality improvement & conduct periodic surveys to appraise suppliers’ performance, check the repeated problems and compliance and report them to the line manager to take necessary procedures.
- Client acceptance/rejection, warranties, and other related follow up matters with the supplier till completion of Project.
- Keep updated with market developments and assist in Vendor Development.
- Generate contractors & suppliers required contracts & ensure contracts’ compliance with contractual terms and conditions and highlight any gaps.
Qualifications:
- Graduated from Mechanical Engineering is a MUST
- Previous Experience in Electromechanical Contracting is a MUST
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in Procurement
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant engineering software
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
